         PETE'S BLOG

Introduction: I, Pete am the co-owner (with wife Suzanne) of Inn the Tuarts Guest Lodge in the Ludlow Tuarts Forest, Busselton in the Margaret River Wine Region of SW Western Australia, which we've been running for the past 9 years. Prior to that we managed the Waterfront Resort Motel, and owned Alixandra Farmstay, Cafe, and Gallery in Denmark on WA's south coast. Before that Suzanne was a Gold Plate nominated Cafe/Restaurant in Nedlands, and I was a Yacht Broker for 5 years following 20 plus as a Travel Agent.

The intention of this blog page is to relate ours and your experiences of great places to visit, to eat, drink, and otherwise enjoy in and around Busselton. There's no rating system, just experiences and opinions. Let me know some of your favourites!

    So here we go:

    19th Feb 2018

The Jade Cafe Restaurant (Chinese -  9 Albert Street, Busselton  ~ 6.9 km from here  (08 9751 3388)

    GREAT CHINESE TAKEAWAY IN BUSSO

We tried to order take away Chinese from the Dynasty, but its closed on Mondays so I called the Jade. Got a very friendly lady who took my order for 6.00pm pick up. At 6.35pm she called and asked if we'd forgotten it, but I said no we were just 2 minutes away. Even after reheating the Combination Chow Mein, Crispy skin lemon chicken, Satay seafood and Special fried rice in the Microwave, it was still excellent with veggies still quite crisp, and obviously good quality ingredients. Total cost was $65, Enough for 3 with leftovers. This will definitely go on our list of best takeaways along with Lemongrass Thai (almost next door, and Navratna Indian, a further 2km along Bussell Highway.

22 Feb 18. Rustico at Hay Shed Hill, Puzey Rd, Willyabrub

STAND-OUT WINERY RESTAURANT in our opinion

Hay Shed Hill has long been one of our favourite wineries and eateries in the region. We love the outlook from the restaurant out over the vines. This was our 2nd visit since the restaurant changed over to independent operator Rustico, who also have a restaurant in Rockingham. We wre offered the degustation by John, $65 pp, or $89 incl matched wine, but chose to order individual dishes. I have to say that there aren't that many restaurants which every dish is fantastic, but Rustico is one. We had quite a range of starters, and a "main" each for the 4 of us. John told us that they're only Tapas size, but we found serves very satisfying and the rocket, pear and parmesan salad was plenty to share. Only gripe: Under this new arrangement, wine is now restuarant rather than cellar door price.

    Tuart regrowth

26 Feb 2018  TUART FOREST RESTORATION GROUP (Click HERE for their Facebook page) I went to an excellent meeting in Capel last night which was attended by almost a hundred people. Speakers gave very informative and rallying talks about the forest and the work ahead to restore and improve it. The Tuart forest is one of the rarest and most unique in the world, yet it has been degraded substaially over the past hundred or more years. The challenge is significant. Where once there were over 300 different species of plants in the forest, now there are only about 20-odd. But this group's approach in seeking a groundwsell of membership (at only $10pp) and volunteers to plant new trees, help control weeds, restore the old Ludlow cottages, and so on. Watch this space for updates....!
